Travel
Flight times
Flight times from London to Nairobi are around eight hours; direct flights to Mombasa from London are between 8 1/2 nine hours.
Time zone
Kenya is always three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. Whilst this time difference is noticeable it is not severe.
Travelling with children.
Holidays to Kenya with children should be no more risky than any other well-established holiday destination. Malaria is the obvious threat with anti-malarial tablets needing to be taken before, during and after the holiday. With this in mind, holidays to Kenya for very young children may not be an easy option as it is often difficult to persuade babies and toddlers to swallow pills. However, the Kenyans are very welcoming to children and it is a wonderful place to take a family holiday.
If you plan to take a Safari it is worth bearing in mind that many tours will not take children who are below the age of seven. Whilst seeing wildlife in Kenya is spectacular, distances between game drives can be vast and boring for young travellers. Those with young children may want to consider some of the one-day Safari excursions available in many of the hotels.
Beaches
The beaches all along the Kenyan coast are stunning. The Coral Reef that lies just beyond the coastline provides ample opportunities for those wanting to snorkel and dive. It also provides a barrier from sharks entering the beach area and provides swimmers on the beach with warm calm water to a bathe in.
